Slav Auditions 2019!

If you love intricate harmonies, potluck dinners, exploring distant countries, attending Balkan music festivals, and learning about unique musical traditions and cultures, come audition for The Yale Slavic Chorus! We are a soprano and alto voice part choir founded in 1969, the first year of coeducation at Yale College, and we sing music from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the Republic of Georgia. Whether you were raised on Georgian lullabies, have sung in other music groups, or your only singing experience is in the shower, we would love to have you audition for us.

Auditions will be held this Sunday and Monday, September 1st and 2nd. If you are interested in joining, email us at slavicchorus@gmail.com or come find us in the performance/arts section at the Extracurricular Bazaar in Payne Whitney Gymnasium on Sunday, 9/1, from 12-2:30 to sign up for an audition time slot. Auditions will be held in WLH Room 114. Please try to arrive five minutes before your scheduled audition time to fill out a short questionnaire.

Here are a few quick pointers for auditions:

  • Come prepared with a 1-2 minute excerpt from a song of your choosing. This could be your favorite pop song, a folk tune, a classical piece, or something slavic – anything that you love and that you feel fits your vocal range well.
  • Come ready to learn! We will take you through some vocal and rhythmic exercises, some of which may be new to you, that will give you a sense of the techniques we use to sing this music. No need to be intimidated, it’s lots of fun!

We’re looking forward to singing with you all! Email slavicchorus@gmail.com if you’re interested in auditioning!
