On Saturday, February 19th, the Slavs will be performing an on campus concert.
Other performers will include the Yale Klezmer Band, and the Slav Friends–non-Slavs with whom we will be singing a few of our favorites.
We hope that you can make it!
Slaventines are singing Valentines, full of drones and yiks, and delivered both in person and via facebook video messages!
This year, we’re going to try to do as many as possible via facebook, because coordinating getting Slavs to all the times and locations is tricky. However, if there is a particular location or time-oriented Slaventine (attack-Slav-ing another rehearsal, someone’s birthday, showing up on someone else’s date, etc), then we can make that happen.
Each Slaventine costs $5 for via facebook, $10 for in-person visits.
If you are interested, let your local slav know, or email sarah . larsson @ yale . edu.
Last night at the Golden Festival in New York City was fantastic in every conceivable way.
But there’s more!
Come to tonight’s concert in which we host Moira Smiley & VOCO!
Dwight Hall Chapel, 8pm
$5 for Yale Students, $15 for Non-Yale Students
From Los Angeles, the enchanting moira smiley & VOCO are gorgeous harmony singers that accompany themselves on cello, banjo, accordion, and ukulele. Named the #1 a cappella group in the U.S. in 2007, VOCO does ground breaking work with vocal harmony. They bring strains of Eastern Europe, an avant-garde, experimental spirit and old American shape-notes with new hambone.
In this special performance at Yale University, hosted by the Yale Slavic Chorus, VOCO will bring new arrangements of BélaBartók’s songs, laments from Bosnia, playful dialogues from Bulgaria, and will get the whole audience to play!
